“For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. “1 Corinthians 1:18
The question this passage begs is this:
WHY is the cross foolishness to the perishing but the power of God to those who are being saved?
Three reasons are contained in the following passages. I’m challenging anyone to read them and give us the reasons. Let’s discuss.
John 3:19
Romans 8:7
2 Corinthians 4:4
Good collection of verses here! Concerning the Unregenerate:
1.) Men love darkness
2.) Mind is hostile towards God
3.) Blinded by Satan

Good answers. Three of many that tell us what fallen man is really like. That question was asked from the pulpit this last Sunday morning and answered by saying that the word of the cross is foolishness to so many because it clashes with our culture. While that is certainly true, it completely avoids the necessity of addressing the ‘perishing’ over against those who ‘are being saved’, all much of what follows in 1 Cor 1 concerning those who reject Christ (Jews and Gentiles) and the ‘called’ (Jews and Greeks) who come to believe the gospel.
