Keep to the Old Truth

Dear brethren and sisters, never give up the grand old truths of the gospel. Let no excitement, even though it be the whirlwind of a revival, ever sweep you off your feet concerning the great doctrines of the cross. If God does not save men by truth he certainly will not save them by lies, and if the old gospel is not competent to work a revival, then we will do without the revival; we will keep to the old truth, anyhow, come what may! Our flag is nailed to the mast.

  1. Amen! I was reminded of a verse, that a sermon was preached on, and it goes well with this quote by Spurgeon. Jeremiah 6:16 Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.

    • Thank you for visiting! I stopped by your site and will have to read the posts about Spurgeon’s depression. I knew he suffered from it but don’t remember reading much about it. One of the best Spurgeon biographies is called ‘The Forgotten Spurgeon’ by Ian Murray. It’s on my shelf but it’s been some time since I read it.

      • Thanks Dan, I will have to look that up. I really get a lot out of Spurgeon’s writings as I deal with depression myself. I am so glad that you came by. Please be in prayer for me, I am very sick with acute bronchitis. God Bless.
