Dear brethren and sisters, never give up the grand old truths of the gospel. Let no excitement, even though it be the whirlwind of a revival, ever sweep you off your feet concerning the great doctrines of the cross. If God does not save men by truth he certainly will not save them by lies, and if the old gospel is not competent to work a revival, then we will do without the revival; we will keep to the old truth, anyhow, come what may! Our flag is nailed to the mast.

Reblogged this on 1 Samuel 17: 45-47 (KJV) 45 Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied. 46 This day will the LORD deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcases of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. 47 And all this assembly shall know that the LORD saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the LORD’S, and he will give you into our hands. and commented:
Jeremiah 6:16 Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.

Amen! I was reminded of a verse, that a sermon was preached on, and it goes well with this quote by Spurgeon. Jeremiah 6:16 Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.
Thank you for sharing.

Thank you for visiting! I stopped by your site and will have to read the posts about Spurgeon’s depression. I knew he suffered from it but don’t remember reading much about it. One of the best Spurgeon biographies is called ‘The Forgotten Spurgeon’ by Ian Murray. It’s on my shelf but it’s been some time since I read it.

Thanks Dan, I will have to look that up. I really get a lot out of Spurgeon’s writings as I deal with depression myself. I am so glad that you came by. Please be in prayer for me, I am very sick with acute bronchitis. God Bless.
