This short book (20 pages) presents 12 remedies proposed by Thomas Brooks to address division among God’s people, emphasizing the importance of love, unity, and focusing on each other’s strengths rather than weaknesses.

The divisions I think most strongly about at the moment are those manifested on social media platforms in which ‘personal opinions’ and ‘preferred interpretations’ are trumpeted loudly across social media as if they are the cold hard truth about whatever might be subject matter of a particular post. No passage or doctrine of scripture, and no subject/topic of the day are off limits

The 12 remedies presented are:

Remedy 1: Focus on Each Other’s Graces: Dwell on the positive attributes of fellow believers rather than their weaknesses.

Remedy 2: Union for Security: Unity among believers enhances safety and security.

Remedy 3: Commands to Love One Another: Reflect on God’s commands that emphasize love among believers. ​

Remedy 4: Focus on Common Agreements: Concentrate on shared beliefs rather than differences.

Remedy 5: God as the God of Peace: Recognize God as the source of peace and encourage peace among believers.

Remedy 6: Maintain Peace with God: Keeping peace with God is crucial for maintaining peace with others. ​

Remedy 7: Recognize Close Relationships: Acknowledge the familial bond among believers as brothers and sisters in Christ.

Remedy 8: Understand the Misery of Discord: Discord among Christians harms the reputation of Christ and the church. ​

Remedy 9: Be Proactive in Seeking Peace: Taking the initiative to seek peace is honorable and reflects God’s character.

Remedy 10: Use the Word as a Guide: The Bible should be the standard for evaluating actions and agreements.

Remedy 11: Engage in Self-Judgment: Regular self-examination helps reduce judgment of others.

Remedy 12: Cultivate Humility Among Believers: Humility fosters peace, kindness, and unity within the Christian community. ​
